What is Content Curation?
First of all, we need to know what content curation is. Well, the content curation is basically the process of gathering, filtering, grouping and selecting information about a specific topic that comes from different sources. Thanks to this process we can provide users the right content that they demand.
How to Start Content Curation?
Let’s begin the content curation process by first being aware of upcoming events or holidays for the following month. The National Day Calendar is a great website to find all festivities celebrated during any month. Simply pick out the days that apply to your company and your niche, and create postcards, images or gifs to wish your online community.
Creating Illustrations and Appealing Visuals
Canva is an excellent resource for creating appealing visuals to help spread the cheer amongst your audience. You can now even create fun gifs, design and create these illustrations in a batch for the entire month. This process could take some minutes as it has lovely templates that are ready to use and can be customised by simple drag and drops.
Searching for Interesting and Relevant Articles
After this, we can spend another hour scouring the web for interesting and relevant articles that will add value to our online community. Look for 14 /15 articles or blog posts that are recent. Sites like Buzzsumo aid in bringing you content that is performing well on social media already. Another personal insider tip from me is to look on Pinterest for articles and boards that pertain to your niche. Once you start doing this, Pinterest will learn what kind of content you are interested in and will display more relevant pins about the same. Moreover, you can follow what your audience members or potential clients pin and share on their boards and redistribute these posts to the rest of your audience on other social platforms with thought-provoking captions.
Besides written content, we all know how many social media platforms like Facebook, give priority to video content. Hence, it is worth investing time and some money in finding or creating quality video content to share with your followers. YouTube, Vimeo are often the best places to look for relevant video content, however, sites like Fiverr enable you to hire a video professional to make you a short video clip with your customised storyline and closed captions starting for as little as $5!
Finally, use Metricool to keep track of different metrics and best times to post for maximum engagement. Drop the content you have found and/or created into the Metricool content calendar along with an intriguing caption that will entice your audience to engage further.
Another handy feature that Metricool offers is the “Autolists” which allows you to create a list of posts and set the days and times you want them published. Examples of posts than can be auto scheduled include interesting facts related to your niche, inspirational quotes or “good morning” and “goodnight” messages that really connect with your audience on a personal level. “Thank you” messages are also a wonderful way of showing your community that you are grateful for their support and increase goodwill -remember manners never go out of style!
Now, we don’t want to plan for the month all in one go, else we could be posting extremely outdated information. I would suggest taking 2 hours of your time out for content curation and scheduling twice on a bi-weekly basis to ensure the content found is fresh and relevant. This would be ideal if you are a business just starting out, and can even be scaled for even better results as you grow with a bigger digital marketing team.
