Instagram Releases Profile Music to All Users
Instagram rolled out a new feature, allowing users to feature their favorite songs or artists on their profile page. This feature takes users back to the 2007 Myspace days, customizing their profile with a song of their choice.
While this song is featured on the user’s profile, it doesn’t autoplay like on Myspace. However, viewers can play and pause the featured song.

The Instagram Creators account posted this Thread, announcing the new feature.
“We’re excited to announce that you can now add a song to your profile, giving you more ways to express yourself through music. Your profile song selection will live on your profile until you swap out the song.”

How can you add music to your profile?
When clicking “Edit profile” a “Music” option appears under links and banners. Search for and select a song to feature on your profile. The app will prompt you to select a 30-second section of the song. Click “Done” and the song will appear on your profile.
You can remove or change the song by going back into the “Edit profile” section and selecting “Remove” or searching for a new song or artist.
It seems Facebook has tested this same feature, however thus far, it hasn’t received the same sentiment as Instagram. With Instagram’s addition of the “Add Yours Music” sticker, music in Notes, and lyrics displayed in Reels, the network is pushing to add more music elements.
As TikTok undergoes the ban case, if it is removed from the US, those music rights will have to shift somewhere. If TikTok is no longer available, Instagram will take advantage of this moment to set itself up for success.
