Meta Vibes: How Meta’s AI Video App Works

Kata Kata 11 February 2026

Meta launched Vibes back in September last year as a feed of entirely AI-generated videos inside its Meta AI app. Fast forward a couple of months, and  it’s now being tested as a standalone app in countries like Mexico and Brazil, as the company confirmed to TechCrunch.

But with AI fatigue growing and feeds already full of synthetic content, the big question is, what does Meta Vibes actually bring to the table for creators? Let’s dive into what it is, how it works, and whether creators could actually profit from it.

What is Meta Vibes?

Meta Vibes is a short-form video feed powered entirely by AI. Originally built into the Meta AI app, it’s now being tested as a standalone app. Think OpenAI’s Sora – another tool for generating short-videos from simple text prompts – launched shortly after Vibes hit the market.

Vibes plays in the same space, but with Meta’s distribution engine behind it.

Here’s what you can do with Vibes:

  • Watch AI-generated short videos in a scrollable feed
  • Create videos from scratch using simple text prompts
  • Remix existing videos: change styles, add layers, swap out elements, and overlay music

Once your video is ready, you can post it to the Vibes feed, send it via DM, or share it directly as Instagram or Facebook Stories and Reels, without leaving the Meta ecosystem.

Meta Vibes as a Standalone App

The big shift? Meta is separating Vibes from Meta AI and turning it into its own app. For now, it’s only available in Mexico and Brazil where Meta is measuring early engagement before a wider release.

With this move, Meta Vibes becomes a direct competitor to OpenAI’s Sora, where you can also create videos from text prompts. Meta’s goal is simple: Keep users engaged in the Meta universe and make short-form AI video part of their content routine.

How to Access Meta Vibes

Meta Vibes is built on three core features: discovery + creation + remix.

  • Discovery: Browse AI-generated videos and, in some cases, see the exact prompt used to create them. Think of it as an AI learning hub where everyone shares tips and techniques.
  • Remix: Perfect for those creative block days when you’re staring at a blank screen. Start with an existing video and make it your own – change colors, add effects, swap elements, you name it.
  • Creation: Build videos from scratch using text prompts.

The result is a hybrid experience: part TikTok feed, part AI playground, part collaboration space.

Is Vibes Free?

For now, yes. But that’s likely to change.

Meta’s planning a freemium model where basic access stays free, but you can subscribe to unlock more video creation credits each month. These test subscriptions are rolling out in the coming months.

What This Means for Social Media Managers

Whether you use Vibes or not, AI-generated videos created in seconds are about to show up more often in your Reels and Stories.

This means you’re no longer just competing with other brands, but with thousands of AI-generated videos. It’s a shift, for sure. But for creators and social media managers, there’s also opportunity.

On the bright side? These AI videos are perfect for quick testing. Want to see if an idea resonates before investing in a full production? Create a Vibes video and gauge the response. It’s not about replacing real content – you can also look at it as exploring what works before you commit resources.

What’s essential is that you don’t sacrifice brand identity for speed. AI-generated or not, your content still needs to feel aligned with your brand and audience.

You can already explore Meta Vibes at meta.ai until it launches as a standalone app in your region.

Want to test it yourself? Try this example prompt:

Vibes will generate 4 video variations you can download or share directly to your Meta channels.

The Authenticity Paradox

While Meta is doubling down on AI tools like Vibes that’s designed to make AI-generated content easier and faster to publish, it’s also voicing concern about the consequences. (A bit like blaming the stairs you built for making you trip?)

To wrap up 2025, Instagram head Adam Mosseri called out one of the platform’s biggest challenges: keeping Instagram feeling genuine as “AI slop” becomes more common.

On one hand, Meta wants feeds to feel more human. On the other, it’s actively scaling the tools that make them feel less so. Hmm.

Whether this approach builds trust or slowly erodes it is still up for debate.

What is clear: creators and social media marketers will play a crucial role in keeping content grounded by choosing substance over shortcuts, and raw authenticity over perfect imagery.
