Twitter Changes Its Logo to X
Out with the old in with the letter X? Yep, Twitter has officially changed its logo from the bluebird we have known so well. Recently Elon Musk decided it was time to change the logo and he chose a very different logo than the original. From light blue and white to a much harsher black and white obscure X. This logo could not get any different from the original and has almost a futuristic glow look.
Twitter being around for 17 years with the same logo, having it suddenly switch is big news. The bigger question though, is how did we get here? Let’s take a look at the reasoning for this big change.
Why Did the Twitter Logo Change to X?
After Elon Musk bought Twitter he has made changes here and there but one of the biggest changes has definitely been this logo. After buying it and making changes it is safe to assume he wants a rebrand. Changing the logo is a very quick way to do this.
Elon came out with his reasonings for this change recently and they have to do with this his ultimate goal of “X” becoming the “everything app.” What does this mean? Well, an everything app would have to combine all of the key features of all the existing apps from messaging, social networking, peer-to-peer payments, and e-commerce shopping.
Linda Yaccarino also tweeted:
“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
History of Elon Musk and X
Elon came up with x.com way back in 1999 which then became the well-known PayPal. He then bought back x.com from PayPal for “sentimental value.” And now 2023, Elon has not forgotten about this title and has created the domain for his successful Twitter app.
Controversy With the New X Logo
With change comes controversy. There has been a large mix of feelings when it came to the logo change. Some feel the change is great and feels like a whole new app and some miss the old blue and white logo.
The biggest controversy though does not lie within the users. It lies within copyright. Josh Gerbin, A highly recognized Trademark Attorney, said “There’s a 100% chance that Twitter is going to get sued over this by somebody.” This is because it was found that both Microsoft and Meta have active trademarks for X. Microsoft has had this ownership for years due to the launch of Xbox.
Glowing X Sign
Another piece of controversy Elon has run into according to very recent news is the Glowing Sign. Elon decided to put a huge glowing X on the top of the headquarters in San Francisco. The large structure is glowing with flashing lights and has caused lots of annoyed and angered people who live nearby.
Because of the angered residents complaints have been filed and there will be a building inspection was conducted. And soon after that, it was removed due to the failure of receiving permission.
Goodbye to the bluebird and hello to X. What do you think of the new change? We would love to hear your thoughts on this!
