Twitter Fleets: What they are and what they are for

09 December 2020

Do stories on social networks sound familiar to you? Probably your answer is yes. Well, Twitter fleets are the same as stories on other social networks but applied to Twitter.

Stay a little longer because I’m going to tell you what this is about.

What are Twitter Fleets

As I’ve already introduced you a little bit, Twitter fleets are the same as Snapchat, Instagram or Facebook stories.

It is a new feature that Twitter has decided to launch on its platform that allows sharing temporary content with a limited duration that disappears after a while.

Like on Instagram, Twitter fleets appear at the top of the feed where you will see the profile images of the users you follow in a circular shape. When they are circled in blue it means that those people have posted new content in fleet format.

What are fleets for?

Twitter fleets can have many uses, just like stories on other social networks.

  • You can share sporadic content that you want your followers to see.
  • Show what you are doing at that moment.
  • Increase the visibility of those tweets that you want to have more reach.

Bear  in mind that Twitter is not the same as Instagram. The daily average number of posts per user is 5, so some posts might have a higher reach than others. Using fleets to give visibility to those tweets that you want your followers to see is a good option.

Fleets Characteristics

Whether or not you are familiar with this type of content on other of social networks, I will tell you what the exact characteristics of these publications are:

Limited duration of 24 hours. Like the rest of social networks, the duration of this type of ephemeral content does not last more than one day, that is, it will disappear after 24 hours.

✅ You can share tweets on your fleet posts.

Click on the share option> and click on share in fleet.

✅ You can mention people in your Twitter stories or fleets. If you already control how it is done in other social networks, it will not be complicated since it is the same process: mention the users you want to name by adding an @ followed by their username.

✅ If your account is private, only users who follow you will be able to see your fleets, just like your tweets.

✅ You can know which users have seen your content in the fleets that you have published.

✅ You cannot post or share interactions with this type of content. You can only interact through private replies.

How to create a fleet on Twitter

To create a fleet on Twitter you have to click on the circle that appears at the top left.

You have the option to:

  • Add only text
  • Upload an image from your image gallery
  • Take a photo in real time
  • Make a video in real time

When you have finished the content you just have to click fleet, at the top right side, and it will be published.

If, on the other hand, you want to share a tweet through this content, you only have to click on the share symbol and then choose the option to share through fleet.

And this is how it is done!

It is very simple.
