ChatGPT Plus in 2026: Plan, Features & Benefits

ChatGPT and other major LLMs have slowly but surely changed the way we search for information, work and even interact with chatbots. Since its launch, the platform has gone through several rounds of pricing changes, new model releases, and feature rollouts. If you’re still picturing ChatGPT Plus as it was at launch, when it essentially meant the same experience with less wait time, it’s worth taking a fresh look at where the ChatGPT Plus plan stands today.

What is ChatGPT Plus?

ChatGPT Plus is OpenAI’s mid-tier subscription for individual users. It sits between the Free plan and Go on the low end, and the Pro plans on the high end, giving subscribers priority access, higher usage limits, and OpenAI’s most capable everyday models.

ChatGPT Plus Price

ChatGPT Plus still costs $20/month, billed monthly with no annual option. That price has stayed flat since Plus launched in 2023, even as the models behind it have changed several times over. As with the original release, this covers usage on chatgpt.com and the ChatGPT apps only. The API is billed separately, by token, and isn’t included in any ChatGPT subscription.

For context, OpenAI now runs a wider lineup of ChatGPT plans:

  • Free: limited access to OpenAI’s standard model, with capped messages and features
  • Go ($8/month): more messages, uploads, and image generation than Free
  • Plus ($20/month): OpenAI’s flagship reasoning model, expanded tools, no ads
  • Pro ($100 or $200/month): higher usage ceilings for professional and heavy use
  • Business / Enterprise: seat-based plans for teams, with admin controls and data protections

ChatGPT Plus Features and Benefits

The main benefit of ChatGPT Plus is straightforward: fewer limits and better models than the Free plan, for a flat monthly rate. Plus subscribers get priority access during high-traffic periods, faster responses, and access to OpenAI’s current flagship model family (branded GPT-5.6, with variants like Sol and Terra depending on rollout). A few of the features bundled into Plus today:

Advanced reasoning models

Plus unlocks OpenAI’s stronger reasoning options for coding, planning, and multi-step analysis, along with higher message limits than the Free or Go tiers.

Image generation

Built-in image creation is included with Plus, letting you generate visuals directly from a written prompt and refine them conversationally, no separate tool required.

Deep Research and memory

Plus includes expanded Deep Research usage for pulling together multi-source answers, along with longer memory and context so ChatGPT can reference earlier parts of a conversation or project.

Custom GPTs and Projects

You can still build and use custom GPTs for specific, repeatable tasks. Projects let you group related chats, files, and instructions together, useful for ongoing campaigns or client work.

Codex and ChatGPT Work

Plus also includes broader access to OpenAI’s coding tools and workplace-oriented features, which weren’t part of the original 2023 launch lineup.

How to Subscribe to ChatGPT Plus

  1. Create a free ChatGPT account, if you don’t have one, using an email address, Google account, or Microsoft account.
  2. Log in and look for the “Upgrade” option in your account settings.
  3. Compare the plans shown (Free, Go, Plus, Pro) and select Plus.
  4. Enter your payment details on the checkout page to complete the subscription.

You can cancel or manage your subscription at any time from your account settings.

How to Cancel ChatGPT Plus

If you decide the plan isn’t for you, canceling ChatGPT Plus takes just a few steps:

  1. Log in to ChatGPT and open Settings.
  2. Go to the Subscription section.
  3. Select Manage my subscription, then choose Cancel plan.
  4. Confirm the cancellation.

Your Plus access continues until the end of your current billing period. There’s no partial refund for the remaining days, and no penalty for canceling, you can resubscribe later at the same $20/month rate whenever you want the higher limits back.

Is ChatGPT Plus Worth It?

That depends on how much you actually use it.

If you use it rather occasionally, for brainstorming, drafting an email, answering general questions, the Free plan may cover you without a subscription. If you regularly bump into usage limits, want image generation and Deep Research on demand, or rely on custom GPTs and Projects for repeatable work, Plus is where most individual professionals land.

Heavier users, especially those running large volumes of Deep Research or advanced coding tasks, may eventually outgrow Plus and look at the Pro tiers instead.

Metricool’s AI Tools

ChatGPT isn’t the only place to get AI help with your content, and it isn’t the one built specifically for social media workflows. Metricool’s AI Assistant is built directly into the planner, so you can generate captions, post ideas, and content variations without leaving your scheduling workflow. On the Starter plan, you get 20 AI credits per brand, per month, each one generating caption ideas or variations based on what you’re posting. Advanced and Custom plans add AI-powered scheduling, which suggests optimal posting times automatically, without using any credits.

This kind of embedded, task-specific AI is exactly where Metricool’s own research says the industry is heading. Metricool’s 2026 State of AI in Social Media Study found that 95% of respondents now use AI in their work, and 61% use it specifically for graphic design or image editing, up from 38% the year before.

Bring Metricool Data Directly Into ChatGPT

You don’t have to choose between the two tools, either. Metricool is available as a connector in ChatGPT’s Apps section, meaning you can pull your real Metricool data directly into a ChatGPT conversation instead of copying and pasting numbers back and forth.

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT things like “pull my Instagram engagement rate for the last 30 days” or “compare my performance to my tracked competitors”, and it reads your actual analytics, scheduled posts, and competitor data through Metricool’s MCP (Model Context Protocol) connector.

The connector works on any Metricool plan, including the free tier, though plan limits still apply (free accounts are capped at three months of historical data and 20 scheduled posts). To use it, you’ll need a ChatGPT account with access to Apps, which currently requires a paid plan like Plus. Once you have that, connecting takes just a few steps: open Apps in ChatGPT, search for Metricool, click Connect, and authorize the connection from your Metricool account.

If you want a general AI assistant for writing, research, or coding, ChatGPT Plus remains a solid $20/month option, with real benefits over the Free plan. But if your priority is generating and scheduling social content in the same place you’re already managing your accounts, Metricool’s built-in AI tools, and its ChatGPT connector, can save you the extra step.
