Instagram Drops Restyle: Meta AI’s New Story-Editing Tool
Instagram has just rolled out a new AI-powered feature that’s set to change the way you edit and share Stories. With Meta AI Restyle, you can now modify your photos and videos directly in the app by using text prompts.
What Is Instagram Restyle?
Restyle is Instagram’s latest AI feature designed to make photo and video editing faster. Instead of generating entirely new images, it acts as an AI assistant that helps you enhance your own content rather than replace it.
Until now, Instagram’s built-in AI editing tools were only available through the Meta AI chatbot. With the addition of text-based prompts in Stories, these features are now easier to use.
You can remove unwanted details, adjust lighting, experiment with effects, or even give your photo a Halloween twist by typing what you want.
How It Works
Follow these simple steps to edit your images.
- Go to your profile and tap the + icon to upload your Story.
- Tap the new Restyle icon (a brush with a small star) in the top tray.
- Choose how to edit your photo or video:
- “Add”, “remove”, or “change” any element.
- Type prompts like “add a golden retriever” or “change the background to sunset.”
- Use one of the preset effects above the prompt bar, or browse for more.
Once you’re happy with the result, tap Done and share it straight to your Story.

Try the Preset Effects
Meta has added several ready-made styles that instantly transform your Story:
- Change your outfit with effects like sunglasses, biker jacket, or black clothes.
- Give your photo a fresh look with filters such as watercolor or film noir.
- Even restyle videos and turn them into underwater scenes, snowy landscapes, or fiery worlds.
You can also combine presets with your own prompts to create a unique edit.
Create Trends with “Add Yours” Stickers
Want to make your AI edit go viral? Add an “Add Yours” sticker to your story before posting. Your followers can then use the same settings on their own photos or video.
If you see a restyled image with the sticker, you can tap it, restyle your own photo, and share it right away.
Meta’s Bigger AI Push
Restyle arrives just as Facebook introduced AI-powered photo suggestions that can edit or create collages from your camera roll, even from photos you haven’t uploaded. The feature is optional, but it shows Meta’s clear move toward integrating AI tools across its platforms.
As it tends to happen, reactions are mixed. Some users are excited to get easier, more accessible editing tools, while others are showing signs of AI fatigue.
What’s your take? Are you going to use this in your daily work?
