Engagement on TikTok

How to calculate engagement on TikTok? Before we get started, let’s first understand social media engagement.

In this post, you will learn what’s behind the engagement rate for the most popular short-video platform.

What is TikTok Engagement?

Engagement is a social media metric that indicates the level of commitment that users and your community have to your content.

In other words, how involved they are with the content you generate on social media: videos, photos, etc.

Each social network has its own engagement rate. That is, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter calculates it differently.

How to calculate TikTok engagement

A good engagement on TikTok is crucial to ensure your videos display in the ‘For you’ section.

So how to calculate TikTok engagement?

First, let’s review the factors that are necessary to calculate the engagement rate of  your videos: likes, comments, shares, and reach

So, the calculation would be:

▶️ Likes + Comments + Shares / Total Reach x 1000 ◀️

Some social media professionals multiply the formula by 100 instead of 1000. Although this is not relevant, why?

The most important thing is to be consistent when calculating the formula. The engagement rate by itself does not provide great information. It is a comparative rate and serves to see and understand your evolution over time and to compare it between different publications.

How to view TikTok metrics

What is certain is that you will need to have the formula handy to calculate the engagement.

How to Increase Engagement on TikTok

As we mentioned above, engagement is the level of commitment of users to your content.

So, your goal is to increase the engagement of your community with your videos.

Here are a couple of tips to improve the engagement rate on TikTok

  • Respond with videos to comments

One of the most exciting features of TikTok is the ability to respond to a comment on a video.

With this feature, you create valuable content, and the user feels that they are an essential part of your community. In the end, you are answering their questions with a video in a personal way.

Thus, you will increase the number of interactions with likes and comments, and if users see value in your response, they will save and share the video.

  • Use all content options

TikTok is not limited to short videos. Since this platform started, it has been innovating as it has grown in users and now offers more content formats to increase engagement.

You have the option to broadcast live to interact with your followers differently, upload stories, or make duets to share new videos on your profile and reach more viewers.

  • Interact with other accounts

TikTok is a social network with a large community of users, and, like any other platform, participating in it is key to its growth.

Grab the opportunity to comment and like other videos and share the content you like. By actively participating on TikTok, you will improve your engagement rate.
