TikTok Voice Messages Are Live!

04 September 2025

Have you noticed that TikTok just rolled out voice messages? The feature is live, and it’s already sparking some buzz online. DMs seem to be the protagonists for social media giants now: Spotify just added them, Instagram keeps upgrading its DMs, and even Threads launched DMs not too long ago.

What’s New?

With this update, TikTok lets you send voice messages up to 60 seconds long in one-on-one and group chats. Instead of typing out a reply, you can now record your voice and send it to your friends or followers. You’re probably used to sending voice mails on WhatsApp or Instagram, but for TikTok, this is a fresh way to interact.

Another noteworthy update: you can also share up to nine photos or videos at once in your chats. You can snap something with your camera, grab it from your gallery, and edit it before sending.

The feature is being rolled out gradually and is only available to users aged 16 and above.

How to Send a Voice Message on TikTok

It’s simple:

  1. Open a DM conversation.
  2. Tap the mic icon.
  3. Record your message and send.

Boom – your voice is now in your follower’s inbox.

Some users are also curious about TikTok voice text-to-speech. Basically, TikTok can read your written messages out loud.

How to Turn Off Voice Notes

Not everyone is ready for this level of audio interaction. Some people want to keep their DMs text-only or avoid accidental messages. If you’re one of them, TikTok has the option to block users from sending you messages.

This is how:

  • Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner of your app.
  • Select ‘Settings and privacy’.
  • Tap on ‘Privacy’.
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Direct messages’ and then to ‘Permission Settings’.
  • Choose who can send you messages by selecting who you allow to send you DMs.

Bottom Line

TikTok voice messages are here, and they can change how people interact on the platform. Whether you’re sending your first voice note or planning to experiment with voice text-to-speech, this is a small feature with big potential for creators who want to connect more personally with their followers.
