16 October 2024

Staying active on multiple social media platforms can be overwhelming for content creators and social media managers. Each platform has unique audiences, preferences, and features, meaning brands must adapt to each. How can you post on multiple social media platforms at once?

Jumping between platforms to post, view insights, and create content is a hassle. Utilizing a single social media management platform can save time and energy, with the ability to create and share content across multiple platforms simultaneously.

This article explores sharing to multiple platforms at once and the cross-posting strategy.

What is Cross-Posting on Social Media?

Posting to multiple platforms at once, also known as cross-posting, is the act of sharing the same content across multiple channels. Social media managers and content creators utilize this method to amplify their content and reach a wider audience. For example, Meta has made it very simple to cross-post to Instagram, Facebook, and now Threads

However, just because you can cross-post to multiple platforms at once, should you? Each platform has its own algorithms, trends, and features, therefore, posting the same content across all active channels may not be the best strategy.

We recommend modifying your content to match your audience’s preferences and interests. Instead of spending hours changing and manually publishing your content to each platform, we have a content planning hack to optimize your processes.

Benefits of Posting to Multiple Social Media Channels

The ability to post to multiple channels simultaneously is not just convenient, it’s smart. Staying active on multiple channels can help reach your marketing goals and increase your brand visibility. Here are a few other advantages to posting to multiple social media channels:

  • Unify your brand voice to increase recognition and consistency across multiple channels.
  • Reach a wider audience and connect with different potential customers on their preferred platforms.
  • Cut marketing costs through organic strategies and repurposing content without spending money on paid campaigns.
  • Streamline communication and clear any confusion about your products or services, supplying resources to learn more and visit your sites.
  • Analyze your efforts to see which channels bring the most visibility and optimize your efforts to fit these results.

How To Post to All Social Channels At Once

Scheduling your social media content to all of your platforms at once can save you a ton of time. As social media marketers, we often look to a third-party planning platform. But these platforms can often come with a hefty price.

How to post on multiple platforms for free

Metricool is a tool that allows you to analyze, manage, and monitor the success of all your digital content. With Metricool’s Multiposting feature, it makes posting on multiple platforms a breeze. By using this feature, you can edit the same post to adapt it to different networks where you want to publish it, simultaneously.

To access the multiposting feature, all you have to do is:

  • Go to the Planning page of your Metricool account and click Create a new post or anywhere on your calendar.
  • Highlight the networks you want to post to and upload the image(s) or video(s). This will be your template
  • Connect your Google Drive and Canva account to locate your social assets without leaving Metricool.
  • Now, edit and adapt the text and image according to the social network for each post. For example, reduce the copy to 280 characters on Twitter, add links on LinkedIn, and hashtags for Instagram.
  • You can even remove the images or videos from one of the networks if you prefer, for example, to make a tweet without a photo and add a GIF instead.
  • On the right-hand side, preview your posts per platform.
  • Optimize your caption with Metricool’s AI assistant, allowing you to optimize the copy per network.
  • Choose the time and day to post it, or leave it as a draft.
  • When you go to the visual calendar, you will see all the posts created, separated by the social network on the chosen date. Now you can drag and move them choosing better times, according to the social network.

As you can see in this image when clicking “Edit by Network”, navigate to each network’s tab to change, which will not affect the posts.

Tips to Consider When Posting on Multiple Platforms

There are several reasons why posting to all social media platforms could risk the success of your social media strategy. Some of the key reasons include:

  1. Each platform has a different audience. Each platform has unique demographics, a major factor to consider when deciding what to post. This means that they prioritize different types of content and information. With Metricool, you can view your audience demographics on each platform:
  1. Users prioritize different types of content for each platform. There are multiple platforms for a reason. For example, you do not go on LinkedIn to watch funny short-form videos, instead, you are probably scrolling that app to maybe apply for a job or learn more about the industry you are in.
  1. Different optimal times. Each platform has different best posting times. This means the different audiences on each platform tend to scroll at different times. For example, if your audience on Facebook is older, their scrolling times may be earlier in the morning if your audience on TikTok is younger, they may be scrolling later at night. Metricool offers the best time to post features for each and every platform.
  1. Post limitations. Each platform has different posting limitations or characteristics. For example, the character limit differs on all platforms, adding links on Facebook and LinkedIn is a beneficial part to include in your posts but, in regards to Instagram links are not allowed, and image sizes differ for each platform.
