Everything You Need To Know About Bluesky Social
Another Twitter replacement app? Just maybe! The hype around the new app known as BlueSky Social is not slowing down. So it’s important to at least know what this app is all about. After the launch of Threads, we know that there was quick growth in the number of installs and then it fizzled out. Bluesky is an invite-only app, but it reached over a million installs as well.
The app has a level of exclusivity in that you have to get invited to use this app. In order to get the invite code to the app you have to snag a spot on a waitlist or use some networking and get an invite code from an existing user.
What Is Bluesky Social?
Bluesky Social is a decentralized app that was created by the former CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey. This app has several similar features to Twitter as it is based on an algorithm, a similar way to post with photo or video options along with up to 256 characters.
This app was created back in 2019 when Dorsey was still working at Twitter. He places high importance on transparency so he makes sure that people outside of the company have access to information on what is going on at all times with the company.
After Twitter was bought by Elon Musk, Bluesky is a completely separate app. Dorsey used this new social media platform to discuss and open up about his feelings towards Elon’s leadership within Twitter.
Is BlueSky Customizable?
The answer to this is yes! BlueSky actually offers custom algorithms or custom feeds. As a user on BlueSky, you have the option to subscribe to as many algorithms as you want so that you can customize what you see on your feed.
You can Pin your customized feeds so that content about your subscriptions will appear on top of your feed when you open the app and begin to scroll. You can find these feeds under ‘My Feeds’ in the menu.
What is the Difference Between BlueSky and Mastodon?
Though BlueSky and Mastadon contain many similarities, it has been found that BlueSky is more user-friendly. But the main difference is that Mastodon does not require an invite code like BlueSKy does.
Bluesky Social Features
Bluesky definitely shares lots of similarities with Twitter, but it is also very unique at the same time. Let’s talk about Bluesky’s features.
- Must have an Invitation Code to begin using the app. You can get on the waitlist or get a code from a user already on the app. Users receive more codes if they are inviting other active users.
- There is a Homepage and a What’s Hot page
- You can interact with other posts by liking them, responding to them, and resharing them
- No direct message option
- Custom feeds- allow users to subscribe to multiple different algorithms that showcase different kinds of posts a user may want to see
- Access for IOS, Android, and Web
New apps, new features, and new trends are constantly popping up in the social media world and it can be hard to stay up to date on it all. Bluesky is a very interesting concept and although it is growing fast and there are millions of users, we are not sure if it is here to stay.
