What is xAI Company?
Just when we thought Musk couldn’t start any new projects, with X, XSpace, and Tesla, Musk is now diving deeper into the artificial intelligence world, with his latest company xAI. Musk intends to raise $1 billion for this endeavor, and continue to focus on building artificial intelligence tools that will, “assist humanity in its quest for knowledge and understanding.”
Since Musk aims to bring X to an “everything” app, this push for AI may be the reason. However, after X Premium launched, Musk also knew he could create exclusive products only available for paying subscribers.
Therefore, Musk’s first project of xAI is Grok, a language learning model, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The catch? It’s currently only available for Premium+ subscribers.
In this article, we will dive into some of the latest xAI news, and how their latest product, Grok, works.
What is Grok AI?
After working closely with OpenAI, Musk and his xAI team wanted to create their version.
The Grok AI chatbox was born as an LLM aiming to help users in research, answering questions, and generating information. This product will follow other popular AI platforms, including a user prompt for the tool to interpret, and generate a response back.
However, Grok’s big differentiation from other tools is that it has a “rebellious” “witty” and “spicy” side. This means that the tool is designed to answer questions that most AI tools will reject, with a sense of humor.
Is Grok AI available yet?
Grok AI is currently in Beta, but users can join the early access program, as long as they are Premium+ subscribers. However, you can also log in with your X account and join the waitlist to access Grok AI. xAI has not disclosed if they will open up Grok to all X users, or if it will stay limited to X Premium members.
How to use Grok AI
If you are currently subscribed to Premium+, or want to see how this tool works, let’s see how to use this platform. To subscribe to X Premium you can head to this link. Then, you will have access to Grok AI’s Early Access program, however, keep in mind that this product may not yet be available in your location. If this is the case, you can enter your email for future updates.
Users in regions where Early Access is available will be able to experiment with the tool and explore the user-friendly interface. Again, this product is still in the early stages, so we can expect xAI to launch new features and developments.
Grok AI features
So far, there are a few features on Grok that stand out amongst other AI tools:
- X Integration and Data Access: Since Grok works side by side with X, users have access to market trends, news, and real-time data. This can be extremely useful for gathering accurate data in an instant.
- Liberal NSFW Filter: xAI included an NSFW (Not Safe for Work) filter, allowing users to have a broader search on topics that other tools may reject or consider “taboo”. However, the tool will still work within its ethical and appropriate terms.
- Language Processing: Grok’s complex language learning processing allows the tool to better understand informalities, expressions, nuances, and colloquial terms. This helps create a more natural tool.
- Chatbox Personality: A key feature of this product is giving Grok personality so that it can communicate with users engagingly and naturally.
Differences Between ChatGPT and Grok AI
These two platforms have similar models, yet their features and accessibility differ. While ChatGPT has a premium plan that starts at $20/month, they also have a free platform available for all users. On the other hand, Grok AI is currently only available to X Premium+ users, which is $16/month.
In terms of the tool itself, Grok is still very much in its early stages and is hard to measure up against a tool that has been around for over a year. However, it seems that Grok’s sense of humor and personality which could allow for a positive user experience. What we don’t know yet is if this “spicy” Grok chatbox will engage users, or avert their engagement.
ChatGPT’s language model gathers information from several databases, websites, and books to generate responses and accurate information. Grok on the other hand uses real-time data and conversations from X, which can help generate relevant and modern information.
There is still much to learn about AI and its new applications, developments, and nuances in the tech space. However, we can predict xAI, Grok, and its other products to change and evolve as the industry does. But first, we need to see how this tool rolls out and what users experience upon first use.
