LinkedIn Swaps Its AI Post Writer for a Proofreading Tool

LinkedIn has given Premium members a new editing assistant called Post Proofreader. It reviews a draft you’ve already written and suggests changes, instead of writing the post for you. It replaces the AI post enhancement option that LinkedIn removed last month. That older tool let people rewrite their updates in-stream.

The difference comes down to who writes the post. The old tool could generate text from scratch. Post Proofreader works only on words you typed yourself, and every suggestion shows up inline with change tracking, so you can see what moved before you accept it.

Premium members get three editing options:

  • Review: Fixes spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Shorten: Trims the post while keeping your meaning.
  • Clarify: Makes the post easier to read.

Each suggestion appears directly in your draft, with removed text crossed out so the edit is easy to follow. Nothing is applied until you accept it. You can dismiss a suggestion, stop partway through, or regenerate it to see a different version. You can also leave a thumbs up or thumbs down on what the tool proposed. You work through one option at a time, which keeps the review from turning into a pile of overlapping edits.

The tool has a few rough edges. Manual editing pauses while a suggestion is open, so you accept or dismiss it before you can keep typing. Anything you leave unresolved is gone once you close the tool, and there’s no version history, side-by-side view, or undo option yet. For now it covers Premium Career and Premium Business subscribers, and it reads English-language drafts only.

LinkedIn has been pushing against AI-generated content for a while now. Last month it added a way to report posts that look machine-written, and members used it more than a million times in under three weeks. The option has since come to comments too. Swapping an AI writer for an AI proofreader keeps the AI on editing duty while the words stay yours.
