Instagram Plus 2026: Features, Price & What It Means for You

Instagram Plus is one of Instagram’s optional paid subscription tiers. It costs $3.99/month in the US and adds extra Story tools, private viewing features and profile customization, while the regular app stays free. This guide covers every Instagram Plus feature, what it costs in different regions, how to subscribe or cancel, how it fits into Meta One, and whether it’s worth paying for.

What is Instagram Plus?

Instagram Plus is a premium subscription for everyday users who want more control over their Stories, more insight into who watches them, and more ways to personalize their profile. Meta announced it in June 2026 and started rolling it out globally, after testing it in a few markets including Mexico, Japan and the Philippines. 

If you’re worried Instagram is about to become a paid app, it isn’t. Instagram itself stays free, and nothing changes if you don’t subscribe. Plus is just a paid layer on top.

Don’t confuse it with two other Meta products:

• Meta Verified is about the verified badge, impersonation protection and support (verification is now also available through Meta One’s creator and business plans). Instagram Plus does not include a verified badge.
• Instagram creator subscriptions are payments you make to individual creators for exclusive content. Instagram Plus is paid to Meta and is a separate product.

Instagram Plus is also one of the single-app plans inside Meta One, Meta’s umbrella subscription program, alongside Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus.

Instagram Plus Features

The features fall into three groups: sharing and connecting, Story insights and private viewing, and customization. Meta has added perks since launch and says more are on the way.

Sharing and connecting with friends

• Story Spotlight: once a week, put a Story first in your friends’ Story tray.
• Unlimited audience lists: create as many custom audiences as you want beyond Close Friends, and share different Stories with different groups.
• 48-hour Stories: keep a Story up for 48 hours instead of the standard 24.
• Super Hearts: send animated reactions to friends’ Stories.
• Post directly to profile: add a post to your grid without pushing it into followers’ feeds. 
• Share Stories only to highlights: add a Story straight to your highlights without it appearing in followers’ Story tray. 

Story insights and private viewing

• Story Preview: watch someone’s Story without appearing in their viewer list (more on this below).
• Rewatch count: see how many times your Story was rewatched, in total.
• Viewer search: search your Story viewer list for a specific person.
• View times: see when each person viewed your Story. 
• Story view notifications: get notified when certain people view your Story.
• Message Preview: read a DM without sending the “seen” notification.

Profile and app customization

• Custom app icons for your home screen.
• Custom bio fonts.
• Custom fonts for Stories and DMs.
• Extra profile pins: pin up to six posts to the top of your profile (standard accounts can pin three).

Added since launch

The privacy features have drawn the most criticism. Since subscribers can watch Stories without showing up as viewers, some users worry their viewer lists no longer show everyone who’s watching.blished. You can subscribe directly inside your Instagram app once the option becomes available in your region.

Instagram Plus Story Preview, Rewatches and Viewers Explained 

The Story features are a big reason people subscribe, and they’re also the most misunderstood. Here’s what they do and don’t show.

How Instagram Plus Story Preview works

Story Preview lets subscribers look at someone’s Story without appearing in that person’s viewer list. Meta describes it as a way to preview Stories “without the pressure to react”.

The person who posted isn’t notified, and nothing on their end shows a preview happened. That’s also why your own viewer list is no longer complete: any subscriber can preview your Stories without leaving a trace.

How to see who rewatched your Story on Instagram Plus

You can’t see exactly who rewatched your Story. Instagram Plus Story rewatch insights show the total number of replays, not the names of the people who replayed it.

What you can do is combine two features:

1. Check the rewatch count in your Story insights to see how many replays it got.
2. Use viewer search to see whether a specific person watched it at all.

If you want to know when particular people watch, you can also turn on Story view notifications for them. None of these tools tells you how many times one person rewatched your Story.

Does Instagram Plus show who viewed your profile?

No. Instagram doesn’t offer profile-visitor data to anyone, paid or free. Plus only tells you more about your own Stories: who viewed them (searchable), how many times they were rewatched, and when certain people watch.

Be cautious with third-party apps or sites that claim to show profile visitors. They can’t access that data, and many ask for your Instagram login.

How to know if someone has Instagram Plus

There’s no official way. Instagram doesn’t show a badge, label or icon for subscribers, and there’s no list of who pays.

You can only spot clues when someone uses a Plus-only feature:

• Their Story is still up after 24 hours. Story Extend keeps Stories live for up to 48 hours.
• They send you a Super Heart reaction on a Story.
• Their bio uses a custom font, or their Story text and DMs use fonts you don’t have.
• They have more pinned posts than a standard account can pin.
• They post to their grid without it showing in your feed, so you only see it on their profile.

None of these proves anything on its own, and someone who only uses Story Preview or Message Preview leaves no visible sign.

How Much Does Instagram Plus Cost?

Instagram Plus costs $3.99/month in the US. Prices vary by region. 

During testing, prices ranged from about $1 to 2.20 (MX39 in Mexico, ¥319 in Japan, PHP 65 in the Philippines). The US launch price is higher than those test prices, but Japan’s for example stayed at ¥319. Meta says pricing, benefits and availability can vary by region and account, so the price shown in your app before you subscribe is the one that applies to you.

How to Get Instagram Plus

At launch, Instagram Plus was only available in the Instagram app for iPhone and Android, not on desktop. It’s rolling out in stages, so if you don’t see it yet, it may not have reached your account.

1. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture.
2. Look for Instagram Plus in the subscriptions section of your profile or the main menu.
3. Review the plan details and price, then tap Subscribe (or start the free trial if one is offered).

Payment goes through the App Store or Google Play, depending on your device.

Watch out for “Instagram Plus APK” downloads. Unofficial modded apps have used the Instagram Plus name for years. They aren’t Meta’s subscription, and installing them can put your account and device at risk. The only real Instagram Plus is the one you subscribe to inside the official Instagram app.

How to Cancel Instagram Plus

Billing runs through your app store, so that’s where you cancel:

• iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Instagram Plus → Cancel Subscription.
• Android: Google Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Instagram Plus → Cancel subscription.

You can also start from Instagram (Settings and activity → Accounts Center → Instagram Plus), which sends you to your device’s subscription settings. On iPhone, cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid another month’s charge; on Android, cancel before the renewal date. Since billing is tied to the store you paid through, you have to cancel from the same type of device you subscribed on.

Instagram Plus vs Meta One plans

Instagram Plus is the entry point to Meta One, which brings all of Meta’s paid plans under one umbrella. Meta launched the single-app plans (Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus) earlier in 2026, then expanded Meta One into a full lineup of bundles on September 15, 2026. If you only care about Instagram’s personal features, Plus is the cheapest option. If you want AI tools or professional features, a bundle might make more sense.

Instagram Plus is about how you use Instagram personally. It doesn’t include a verified badge, scheduling, links in posts or professional analytics; those are in the creator and business tiers. 

Is Instagram Plus Worth it?

It’s worth it if you post Stories often and care who’s watching. It probably isn’t if you mostly scroll, or if you need tools to grow a brand.

It’s a good fit if you:

• Share Stories daily and want them to last longer or occasionally show up first for friends.
• Want separate audiences for family, friends and work without juggling accounts.
• Like checking Stories and DMs without leaving a “seen” trace.
• Enjoy personalizing your profile and app.

Skip it if you:

• Want a verified badge or account protection (look at Meta One Essential instead).
• Need scheduling, analytics or links in posts for a business account.
• Rarely post Stories.

What Instagram Plus Means for Creators and Brands

Instagram Plus isn’t built for businesses, but it still affects them:

• Viewer lists are less reliable. Subscribers can watch Stories without appearing, so view counts and viewer lists may undercount real interest.
• Story Spotlight competes for attention. Paying users can push a Story to the front of their friends’ Story tray once a week, which means more competition for the top spots.
• More audience segmentation. Fans with Plus can share your content to custom lists, which may make sharing more targeted and less public.
• Meta is leaning into freemium. With Meta One, some professional features, like links in organic posts and in-app Story scheduling, now sit behind a paywall. Watch which features move there next.
