Meta Ads vs. TikTok Ads 2026: Where Should You Put Your Budget?

Gretchen Oestreicher Gretchen Oestreicher 28 October 2026

Meta and TikTok both put your ads in front of people where they already spend their time, but each platform charges differently and works best for different goals. When you compare Meta ads vs. TikTok ads, the better choice depends on what you want a campaign to do and how far you need your budget to go.

Metricool’s 2026 Social Ads Report analyzed nearly 630,000 campaigns from more than 44,000 advertisers to see where each platform gives you more for your money. These results show what each platform costs for awareness, traffic, engagement, leads, and sales, and how other advertisers are splitting their budgets between Meta and TikTok.

TikTok vs. Meta Ads: Which Is Cheaper?

For most campaign goals, TikTok is the cheapest platform for social ads. The table shows the average cost on each platform in the first half of 2026.

Campaign GoalHow It’s MeasuredMetaTikTok
Getting seenCost per 1,000 impressions$0.48$0.38
Getting clicksCost per click$0.07$0.03
Getting engagementInteractions per $1 (higher is better)10.88.2
Getting leadsCost per lead$6.00$2.69

TikTok is cheaper for three of the four goals, and Meta comes out ahead on engagement. Lower costs on TikTok usually come with bigger budgets, though, because the average TikTok campaign spends close to twice as much as a Meta campaign. So if you’re looking for the cheapest social media ads, TikTok gets you more for each dollar, and advertisers there tend to put more money behind each campaign.

TikTok vs. Meta CPM for Brand Awareness Ads

CPM is what you pay each time your ad is shown 1,000 times. It’s the number to watch when you want people to see your brand, and TikTok’s is about a fifth lower than Meta’s.

Advertisers spend more on TikTok awareness campaigns than on Meta’s, and they get more than twice as many impressions in return. That makes TikTok the best platform for brand awareness ads when you’re launching a product or introducing your brand, because the same budget puts it in front of more people.

TikTok vs. Meta Cost per Click for Traffic Campaigns

Clicks show the biggest price difference between the two platforms. A click on TikTok costs less than half of what it costs on Meta, so the same budget sends a lot more people to your website, product page, or blog.

Clicks got more expensive on both platforms compared with 2025, and prices rose faster on TikTok. However, TikTok started from a much lower price, so it’s still the cheaper way to drive traffic.

Engagement Campaigns: Where Meta Gets More for Each Dollar

Engagement is the one goal where Meta gives you more for your money. A Meta engagement campaign gets more likes, comments, and clicks per dollar than a TikTok one, even though it usually runs on a much smaller budget.

The engagement rate on these ads (the share of people who saw the ad and interacted with it) is about the same on both platforms, at around 2%. TikTok collects more interactions overall because advertisers spend more there. However, each dollar goes further on Meta, which makes it a good fit if you want people to interact with your posts and you’re working with a small budget.

TikTok vs. Meta Cost per Lead

Lead campaigns give the fairest comparison, because advertisers spend about the same amount per campaign on both platforms. With that budget, TikTok brings in more than twice as many leads, and each one costs less than half as much.

The gap is growing. TikTok’s cost per lead dropped by about a third compared with 2025, while Meta’s went up.

People click on Meta lead ads more often, which makes this result surprising. The difference comes after the click, because more of the people who click on TikTok go on to fill in the form.

If your business depends on sign-ups or demo requests, test TikTok with part of your lead budget and compare the results on your own account.

Meta Sales Campaigns and TikTok Product Sales

Sales campaigns are harder to compare, because each platform uses them so differently. On Meta, sales campaigns are one of the most common goals and take the biggest share of advertisers’ budgets. On TikTok, the Product Sales goal is used by a small and shrinking group of advertisers.

That TikTok group reports a much lower cost per purchase than Meta. However, the brands still using it may be the ones that already had it working, so treat the result as an early, promising sign.

How Meta ROAS Changed in 2026

ROAS (return on ad spend) tells you how much you get back in sales for every dollar you put into ads. The report measures it for Meta only, and it went down this year. Every dollar spent on Meta sales campaigns brought back $4.57 in sales, compared with $5.48 in 2025.

Advertisers spent much more on Meta sales campaigns, and their sales grew too, but not as fast as their spending. The advertisers with the biggest budgets got the lowest return of any group, even lower than the smallest accounts.

Where a brand is based makes a big difference. Brands in Norway got back more than $12 for every dollar, while brands in the United States got $2.42. If you run Meta sales campaigns, compare your results with brands of a similar size in your own market instead of the overall average.

How Advertisers Split Their Budget Between Meta and TikTok

For most advertisers, paid social still means Meta. Nine in ten run ads only on Meta, and a small group uses both platforms.

Using both is much more common among bigger spenders, who have more room to test a second platform. Among advertisers that already use both, TikTok picked up a little more of the budget this year. Smaller advertisers are the most open to it. Those spending under $100 a month now put more than 40% of their budget into TikTok, more than any other group.

Meta budgets are still growing faster. Average spend per Meta campaign went up by almost half compared with 2025, but much of that extra money went to higher ad prices.

On both platforms, most campaigns aim for traffic or engagement, while most of the budget goes to campaigns that drive leads and sales.

How to Compare Meta and TikTok Ads in Metricool

Benchmarks are a starting point, and your own results show which platform works for your brand. The easiest way to find out is to run campaigns on both and look at them in one place.

See Meta and TikTok Campaigns in One Dashboard

Metricool’s Ads section brings your Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, and Google Ads campaigns into one dashboard. From there, you can create reports that show the results from all your ad platforms together, so you have the full picture in one place without pulling numbers from each ad manager.

From the same dashboard, you can create Meta Ads and Google Ads campaigns, change budgets, and pause or restart campaigns. TikTok campaigns are created in TikTok Ads Manager and then tracked in Metricool with the rest of your ads.

Promote Facebook and Instagram Posts From the Planner

If a post is already getting attention, you can put a small budget behind it without opening Meta Ads Manager. Metricool lets you promote single-image posts on Facebook and Instagram, as well as Instagram Reels, either after they’re published or while you schedule them. These promotions run for about two days and Meta chooses the audience, so a full campaign is the better choice for custom targeting or a longer run.

Track Paid and Organic Results Together With Campaign Dashboards

Most campaigns mix ads with organic posts, and Campaign Dashboards puts both in one report. You choose which ad campaigns and posts belong to a campaign, with suggestions from Metricool based on the campaign name and description.

The dashboard shows combined results, your top posts, and AI-generated insights about what worked. You can set goals for views, interactions, and paid clicks and follow your progress toward each one. When it’s time to report, you can share a read-only link with clients or your team, and they don’t need a Metricool account to open it.

Build Custom Reports With Metricool Studio

Metricool Studio turns a plain-language request into a report with charts, tables, and written insights, using the data that Metricool already collects from your connected profiles. You describe what you want to see, such as a comparison between this month and last, and Studio builds the view for you. You can then share it with a read-only link or export it as a PDF.

Campaign Dashboards and Metricool Studio are available on paid plans, and the Advanced Analytics Add-on gives you full access to both.

Analyze Your Meta and TikTok Ads in Claude

Metricool connects your ad accounts to Claude, so the questions you’d usually answer with exports and pivot tables turn into a normal chat. The answers are based on your own data.

For Meta Ads, Claude can rank your ads by cost per result and show you where budget went without bringing anything in. It can tell you when an ad is starting to wear out because people have seen it too many times. You can have it look at your thumbnails to find what your best ads have in common, or work out a break-even cost per lead using your own margin.

The connector covers Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Google Ads, and your social profiles in the same chat. That means you can ask Claude what a lead or a click costs you on each platform this month and see how your own numbers compare with the report’s averages.

It works on every Metricool plan, and creating or editing campaigns still happens in Metricool’s Ads section. If ChatGPT is the assistant you use, Metricool’s MCP connects to it in the same way.

Meta Ads vs. TikTok Ads: Which Is Better for Your Goals?

The better platform depends on what each campaign is for, since each one is cheaper for different goals.

TikTok tends to work better for advertisers who want:

  • To Reach New Audiences: Your ad gets shown more times for the same budget, so more people see your brand.
  • To Drive Traffic: Clicks are much cheaper, so more of your budget turns into visits to your site.
  • To Generate Leads: Each lead costs less, and more of the people who click go on to fill in your form.

Meta tends to work better for advertisers who want:

  • To Get More Interactions on a Smaller Budget: Engagement campaigns get more likes, comments, and clicks for the money.
  • To Run Sales Campaigns With Plenty of Benchmarks: Sales is one of the most used goals on Meta, so there’s a large pool of results to plan against.

If you only run ads on one platform, pick the goal that matters to you this quarter and move part of that budget to the other platform. After a few weeks, compare what each result costs on both, and put more of your next budget behind whichever one comes out cheaper.
