How to Use Metricool with Claude: Every Feature, Explained

Managing social media means jumping between tools. You pull analytics in one place, schedule posts in another, check competitors somewhere else, then copy it all into a report at the end of the month. Metricool’s MCP connects your account to Claude, so you can do all of that from one conversation, in plain language, without opening the dashboard.
Setup takes about five minutes and no code. After that, every Metricool feature is a prompt away: analytics, scheduling, competitor tracking, ad monitoring, and the purpose-built agents that build your reports and carousels.
What Using Metricool with Claude Means
Metricool’s MCP is the official server that connects your Metricool account to Claude. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI tools read from and write to external services securely. Once it’s connected, you ask Claude for what you need, and it talks to Metricool on your behalf, pulling your data or scheduling your posts in real time.
The connection works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, and Claude.ai, along with other clients like Cursor, ChatGPT, Mistral Le Chat, Make, n8n, Smithery, and Gemini CLI. It’s the same server across all of them, so the setup barely changes from one to the next.
Your data stays yours. Claude reads it fresh for each request and doesn’t store it, and you can revoke access anytime from your Metricool account settings.
How to Connect Metricool to Claude
The setup takes a few minutes and you only do it once. Before you start, connect the social accounts you want Claude to reach from your Metricool dashboard (Add Brand), and if you want competitor analysis, add the accounts you want to track in the Competitors section so Metricool can start collecting their public data.
On Claude.ai
- Click your profile icon and go to Settings.
- Click Connectors.
- Click the + button, then Add Custom Connector.
- Name it Metricool and paste this URL: https://ai.metricool.com/mcp
- Click Save and authorize your Metricool account when prompted.
On Claude Desktop
Go to Settings → Developer → Edit Config and add this block inside the mcpServers object:
“metricool-mcp”: {
“command”: “npx”,
“args”: [
“-y”, “mcp-remote”,
“https://ai.metricool.com/mcp”,
]
}
To find your API key, open the top-right menu in Metricool, go to Account settings, and select the API tab. Copy the key, paste it in place of YOUR_API_KEY, then save and restart Claude Desktop.
On Claude Code
Claude Code needs a Pro or Max subscription. Install it from the Claude Code page, then set it up from your terminal.
- Add the Metricool server. In the terminal where you’ll use Claude Code, run: claude mcp add –transport http metricool https://ai.metricool.com/mcp
- Start Claude Code by entering claude.
- Run /mcp to see your active servers, then select Metricool. It’ll flag that authentication is required, so press 1 or Enter to authenticate.
- Authorize in the browser. A tab opens asking for access. Click Grant access.
- Head back to the terminal. Once it confirms, the Metricool server is connected and ready.
Test the Connection
Once you’re set up, send Claude this message:
Show me all the brands connected to my Metricool account.
If it responds with your account data, you’re ready to go.
What You Can Do with Metricool and Claude
Everything you manage in Metricool becomes something you can ask for in a conversation. Here’s what that looks like across each area, with prompts you can copy straight into Claude.
Analytics and Reporting
Instead of logging into several dashboards and exporting spreadsheets, you ask one question and get the numbers plus Claude’s read on what they mean.
- “Show me my analytics across all platforms for the last 30 days. Which platform grew the most?”
- “What were my top five Instagram posts this month by engagement rate? Explain why each one worked.”
- “Pull my YouTube analytics for this month. What’s my average view duration, and which video brought in the most new subscribers?”
Ask for interpretation on top of the numbers. A prompt like “tell me what’s working and what isn’t” turns your data into takeaways you can act on.
Scheduling and Publishing
You can schedule a single post, draft a full week, edit what’s already queued, or check your calendar for gaps. Claude handles the formatting differences across platforms, so each network gets a version that fits it.
- “Schedule this post on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn tomorrow at my best posting time: ‘Just launched our new product line. Link in bio for early access.'”
- “Create and schedule five posts for this week across Instagram and LinkedIn. Theme: productivity tips for small business owners.”
- “Show me my posts scheduled for this Saturday. Edit the Instagram caption to be shorter and add three relevant hashtags.”
Publishing is your call. You can send a post out right away, set a specific date and time, or let Claude use your best posting time.
After Claude schedules or edits a post, its reply includes a direct link to that post in your Metricool planner. Click through to open it, see how it looks with the image, caption, and formatting in place, make any tweaks, and confirm it went through before it publishes.
That link earns its keep in a few ways:
- Visual Confirmation: Open the post in Metricool and see exactly how it reads, attachments and all, instead of trusting a text summary.
- Quick Tweaks: If the crop or formatting isn’t quite right, fix it in the planner without hunting through your calendar to find the post.
- Proof It Worked: The link confirms the post was actually created or updated in Metricool.
Some detailed formatting and attachment changes still happen in the planner itself, and the link takes you exactly where you need to be to make them.
Best Posting Times
When you ask Claude to schedule at your best posting time, it pulls Metricool’s data and calculates the best slot based on when your audience is actually active, rather than a generic recommendation. The more history you accumulate, the more accurate it gets.
- “Write a post about our new product launch for Instagram and schedule it for the best time tomorrow.”
Competitor Tracking
Once you’ve added competitors in Metricool, Claude can pull their public data and help you understand what’s working in your niche. The idea is to spot the gaps and the patterns worth acting on.
- “Compare my engagement rate with my three main competitors over the last 30 days. Where am I ahead and where am I falling behind?”
- “Look at my competitors’ top posts from the last two weeks and give me five content ideas based on what’s getting the most engagement.”
- “What topics are my competitors covering that I’m not? Give me five content ideas to fill those gaps.”
Sort by engagement rate rather than follower count, and look for patterns across a date range instead of reacting to one viral post.
Ad Campaign Monitoring
If you run paid campaigns on Meta, Google, or TikTok, Claude can pull performance data so you don’t have to open each ad platform separately. Connect your ad accounts from the Ads section of your dashboard first.
- “How are my Meta Ads campaigns performing this month? Show me spend, impressions, clicks, and cost per result for each campaign.”
- “Compare my active campaigns across Meta Ads, Google Ads, and TikTok Ads. Which platform is giving me the best return right now?”
- “Summarize ad performance for all active campaigns this week. Format it as a brief update I can send to a client.”
Content Strategy and Ideas
Because Claude can read your actual performance data, the ideas it generates are grounded in what’s already working for your account.
- “Look at my top ten posts across all platforms this quarter. What patterns do you see? Give me ten new content ideas based on those patterns.”
- “Based on my analytics and best posting times, create a content plan for next week. For each post, include the platform, format, a caption draft, and the suggested time.”
- “Take my top three Instagram Reels from this month and adapt each one for LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter/X, and YouTube Shorts. Write the captions for each platform.”
Managing Multiple Brands
If you run social for a chain, a franchise, or several clients, Claude can work across all your connected accounts at once. The more brands you connect, the more useful cross-account comparisons become.
- “Compare Instagram performance across my eight locations over the last month. Which grew the most, and which had the best engagement rate?”
- “Schedule this post on the Instagram accounts for all eight locations, each at its best posting time.”
- “Build a monthly report comparing all eight locations: followers, engagement, and each one’s top three posts. Format: summary table.”
Purpose-Built Claude Tools for Metricool
Beyond the day-to-day prompts, Metricool has three specialized tools that run on the same MCP connection and handle bigger jobs end to end.
Instagram Benchmark Skill
Your Instagram numbers don’t mean much without a reference point. Is a 2.5% engagement rate strong for an account your size? Are 10,000 views on a Reel above or below average? This Claude skill pulls your Instagram data and compares it against 375,000 real accounts, then generates a scored report tuned to accounts like yours.
You’ll see where you stand on:
- Reach and views by format
- Engagement rate for your follower tier
- Publishing consistency and frequency
- Recommendations based on your real data
The benchmark is the starting point. Once you’re connected, you can go deeper and compare your performance against accounts in your niche.
Social Media Report Agent
Building a report you can actually act on usually eats hours: switching tabs, scrolling post lists, running the same date range three times, and ending up with a folder of screenshots. This Claude Agent pulls your performance data across every connected channel in a couple of minutes and builds a polished, self-contained HTML report you can open in any browser or share with a client.
You’ll get:
- Post performance by network, with charts and your top posts ranked
- Follower growth for the period you choose
- Competitor benchmarks for Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, and YouTube
- Recommendations backed by what your numbers actually show
- One shareable file that doesn’t need a login to open
If you run reports for several clients every month, you can turn this into a repeatable routine with Claude Skills and Projects. Store the method (the prompts, the report structure, the tone) in a Skill, keep each client’s context in its own Project, then trigger a full report with a single message like “prepare the report for May.”
Carousel Agent
Making carousels is still manual, even with AI in the mix. You write the prompt, get the copy, format it by hand, hunt for images, paste everything into a design tool, export the slides, then go schedule it. By the time you’re done, you’ve touched six tools and lost an hour.
The Metricool Carousel Agent closes that loop. It’s a Claude skills package that turns Claude Code into a carousel generator and connects to your account through the Metricool MCP. Claude designs the slides, sources the images, renders them at 1080×1350, and schedules the post in Metricool, all through the same connection. You give directions and approve each step, and nothing goes live without your say-so. Finished carousels publish directly to Instagram and LinkedIn.
The workflow runs in three commands:
- /configure: Connect your brand or brands, Metricool account, and image sources. About five minutes, and you only run it once.
- /generate-carousel: Give a topic. The agent writes the copy, designs the slides, sources images, and builds a preview at 1080×1350. Ask for changes if you want them, then it renders.
- /publish-carousel: Approve the caption and pick a time. The agent uploads the slides and schedules the post in Metricool.
To run it, you’ll need a Metricool Premium account, Claude Desktop or the CLI, and Node.js 18 or higher. It’s built for social media professionals who already work in Claude Code and understand how MCP servers work.
Tips for Better Results with Metricool MCP and Claude AI
- Be specific with date ranges. “The last 14 days” or “from June 1 to June 15” gets you cleaner results than “recently” or “this month.”
- Add “at my best posting time” to scheduling requests. Metricool calculates this from your real engagement history, and it sharpens as you accumulate data.
- Add competitors before you need them. Three to five accounts is plenty. Metricool starts collecting their public data right away, so there’s something to work with when you ask.
- Connect your ad accounts too. Most people only connect organic profiles. Adding Meta Ads, Google Ads, and TikTok Ads lets Claude compare paid and organic side by side.
- Ask what the data means. “Show me my analytics and tell me what’s working and what isn’t” turns your numbers into takeaways you can act on.
- Check the content calendar after scheduling. Posts scheduled through Claude show up in Metricool’s visual planner. A quick look before the week starts confirms everything landed.
Get Started with Metricool MCP
Once Metricool is connected, all of it runs through Claude: pull your analytics across every platform, schedule and edit posts at your best times, check what competitors are doing, monitor your ad campaigns, and hand off full reports and carousels to the purpose-built agents. It’s the same account you already have, reached through plain-language conversation instead of a dozen dashboard tabs.
Start with one thing you do every week, ask Claude for it, and build from there. If you’re not on Metricool yet, you can create an account then connect the MCP and run your first prompt.
