How to Schedule Posts on Instagram with Claude and Metricool

If you connect Claude to Metricool, you can schedule Instagram posts with Claude from the same chat where you write the captions. When you share the image or video, the caption, and the time, Claude adds the post to your Instagram calendar in Metricool.
It works for photos, carousels, Reels, and Stories, and it handles changes to posts that you’ve already scheduled.
Why Schedule Instagram Posts with Claude
Writing posts is the most common job that social media professionals give to AI: 86% use it that way. The next step is still manual: copying the caption into a scheduling tool, uploading the files, and choosing a time.
That handoff repeats with every tool that you add, and the toolkit keeps growing. More than a third of professionals now work with over four AI tools, up from 14% a year earlier. When they’re asked what would help them get more out of AI, integration with the tools that they already use comes second only to training.
Connecting Claude to Metricool turns that handoff into one more message in the chat. The caption that you approved goes straight to your Instagram calendar, and Claude can check your best times, move posts, and update captions from the same conversation.
Who Benefits from Scheduling Instagram Posts with Claude
Anyone who writes captions with Claude can use this setup. It saves the most time for people who manage several accounts or have little time for social media. Freelancers, agency teams, in-house managers, and business owners each get something different out of it.
Freelance Social Media Managers
If you manage several clients, each one is a separate brand in Metricool, and Claude schedules to whichever brand you name in the prompt. That lets you finish one client’s caption, schedule it, and move on to the next client in the same chat. Asking for each client’s best time ties the timing to that account’s own data. And when a client asks why a post went out at 7 p.m., you can point to their own best times in Metricool.
Agency Teams
Daily AI use runs highest in agencies, where 88% of employees use it every day. Most client work needs an approval step before anything goes live. On Metricool plans with team management, Claude can schedule a post and send it for review in the same request. The reviewers that you name then get a notification to approve it in Metricool. The post sits in the same calendar that the rest of your team already works from.
In-House Social Media Managers
In-house plans change after the calendar is built. A launch moves, a promotion ends early, or the legal team asks for a new caption. If you tell Claude what changed, it finds the scheduled post and updates it. You can make that change from your phone, in a meeting room or on the way home.
Small Business Owners
Time is the most common barrier to using AI well, and business owners feel it more than any other group. Scheduling through Claude works in plain words, so the only skill you need is describing what you want. If you put the week’s posts into a single message and ask for your best times, one sitting covers your whole Instagram calendar.
How to Connect Metricool to Claude
Claude needs two connections before it can schedule anything: your Instagram account linked to Metricool, and the Metricool connector switched on in Claude. The connector uses Metricool’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), which is what lets Claude read and act on your Metricool account. It’s listed in Claude’s Connectors Directory, so setting it up takes a few clicks.
- Connect your Instagram professional account to Metricool.
- Open Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop.
- Go to Customize > Connectors and click the + button next to Connectors.
- Search for Metricool in the directory and click Connect.
- Review the permissions and click Grant access.
- Open a new chat and ask, “Which brands do I have connected to Metricool?” If Claude lists your brands, the connection works.
Once you connect, Claude can see the brands, metrics, and calendar in your Metricool account, and it can create and schedule posts within your Metricool plan’s limits. The connector works on every Metricool plan, including Free. The connection belongs to your Claude account, so it works in the Claude app for iOS and Android once you’ve set it up.
If Claude replies without checking Metricool, click the + button in the chat, hover over Connectors, and make sure that Metricool is toggled on. You can revoke access at any time by disconnecting Metricool in Customize > Connectors.
If you work in Claude Code, Metricool’s Help Center has a separate guide for connecting it there.
How to Schedule an Instagram Post with Claude
A single image is the simplest place to start. Claude needs five details: the brand, the date, the time, the caption, and a public link to the image, such as a Google Drive link. If the image is in Google Drive, link Google Drive to your Metricool account first so that Metricool can upload it.
If you’d rather not pick the time, ask Claude to use your best time, and it finds that in your Metricool data:
“In Metricool, schedule this post on the Instagram account for [brand name] tomorrow at my best time. Use this text as the caption: [paste the full caption]. Here’s the public link to the image: [paste the link].”
If you already know the slot, give Claude the exact day and time:
“Schedule this post on [brand name]’s Instagram next Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Use this text as the caption: . Use this image: [public link].”
Claude creates the post through Metricool and adds it to your calendar. Its reply includes a direct link to the post in the Metricool Planner. From there, you can check how it looks and adjust the crop, caption, or formatting.
How to Schedule an Instagram Carousel with Claude
A carousel follows the same process, with one public link for each image or video. Here’s a prompt that you can adapt:
“Schedule a carousel on [brand name]’s Instagram on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Use these images in this order: [image link 1], [image link 2], [image link 3], [image link 4]. Add this caption: .”
List the links in the order that you want the slides to appear. If you change your mind about the sequence, you can reorder the slides later in the Planner.
How to Schedule an Instagram Reel with Claude
For a Reel, give Claude the video, the caption, and the time that it should go out:
“Schedule this Reel on [brand name]’s Instagram on Friday at my best time. Use this video: [public link]. Add this caption: .”
Metricool schedules regular Reels and Trial Reels. Instagram shows Trial Reels to non-followers first, so new audiences have a chance to see an idea before your followers do. You can add collaborators, set the cover, and choose to share the Reel to your feed, either in the same prompt or later in the Planner. For example, you can add a line like this one to the prompt:
“Add [@username] as a collaborator and use the frame at the 3-second mark as the cover.”
How to Schedule Instagram Stories with Claude
Stories need even less information. Since they go out without a caption, Claude only needs the image or video and the time:
“Schedule this Story on [brand name]’s Instagram account tomorrow at 9 a.m. Use this image: [public link].”
For a sequence, tell Claude the order and the spacing:
“Schedule these three Stories on Instagram tomorrow. Publish them in this order starting at 10 a.m., with 30 minutes between each one: [link 1], [link 2], [link 3].”
Metricool can auto-publish Stories on business and creator accounts. Instagram keeps stickers and links inside its own app, so you add those in Instagram itself. If a Story needs one, ask Claude to schedule it as a reminder instead of auto-publishing it. The Metricool mobile app notifies you at the scheduled time, and you add the sticker before you post the Story.
Prompts to Schedule Instagram Posts with Claude
Once you know the structure, you can ask for more than a single post. Claude can work with posts that you’ve already scheduled, so you can adjust your calendar after you’ve built it.
To spread several posts across the week, ask Claude to check your best days first:
“Check my best days and times for Instagram this week and spread these three posts across them, with at least one day between each.”
If plans change, you can move a post that’s already in the calendar:
“Move the post scheduled for tomorrow to Friday at 12 p.m.”
When a detail in a caption changes, like a price or a date, Claude can update it in place:
“Update the caption of the Instagram post I have scheduled for tomorrow with this text: .”
Claude applies edits as soon as it makes them, so before a bigger change, ask it to show you the plan first and wait for your go-ahead:
“Show me what you’re going to schedule first, and wait for my confirmation before you schedule it.”
How to Schedule a Week of Instagram Content with Claude
Say you have four posts ready for next week. Instead of scheduling them one by one, you can hand all of them to Claude in a single message:
“I want to schedule next week’s Instagram content for [brand name]. Check my best times in Metricool and spread these four posts between Monday and Friday, with no more than one post per day.
Post 1:
Post 2:
Post 3:
Post 4:
Before you schedule them, show me the calendar you’re proposing.”
Asking for the proposed calendar first is a good habit when you schedule several posts at once. You approve the plan before Claude changes anything in Metricool, and you can swap days or times while it’s still a proposal.
Tips for Scheduling Instagram Posts with Claude
The setup takes a few minutes, and some simple habits keep your scheduled posts sounding like you:
- Write and Schedule in the Same Chat: Draft the caption with Claude and edit it until it’s ready. Then ask Claude to schedule that version, so the caption that you approved is the one that goes out.
- Edit the Caption Before You Schedule It: Most professionals rework AI output for tone, facts, and brand voice, and only 17% publish it nearly as it comes. Reading the caption out loud once helps you hear if it sounds like your brand.
- Keep the Week’s Files in One Folder: If every image and video for the week sits in one shared folder, each prompt only needs the file’s link.
- Save Your Reusable Prompts: Keep your weekly prompt in a note so that each week you only swap in the new captions and files.
Once your posts go live, the same connection lets Claude analyze how they performed, so next week’s schedule can build on what worked.
